About Our Program
As beginners, 6th- grade art class students will learn the basic concepts of artwork creation, art history and art critique. 7th- and 8th-grade student will focus on learning the Elements of Art and, later in the semester, will also learn to apply the Principles of Art while creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional works. Students will use a variety of media to express individual ideas. Art is a form of visual communication; therefore, students will continually reflect on and discuss their artwork, famous artists, art from around the world and art history. All grade levels will have the opportunity to exhibit artwork at the Tapestry and Duluth Cluster Art Show.
Art club students in NJAHS (National Junior Art Honor Society) participate in extracurricular artmaking and exhibition opportunities, collaborative group art projects, and juried art shows. Once a year, students will visit an art museum and have a meeting with a local artist.
